Teaching good digital citizenship is a way to effectively prepare our students to be lifelong users of technology. It is our job as educators to ensure our students are able to make responsible and safe choices when they are using all forms of technology. We need to make sure students are aware of the responsibilities that go along with using technology and the lasting impact of their choices.
There are many great resources available to help us teach students how to be good digital citizens. We also need to be aware that our student’s parents may need support in learning how to be good digital citizens themselves. Parents may be in need of resources to help support their children in being good digital citizens.

LOVE the THINK poster! I wish some adults could see that, or maybe have it posted on all Social Media sites. I think part of the responsibility we have as educators is making sure are students have the opportunity to be better people tomorrow. Having good digital citizenship is certainly part of that opportunity! Thanks for the resources!
ReplyDeleteI have this poster in my classroom, so lots of applications here. Recurring messages are really helpful to students. Thanks for reminding me that parents will need help with this. That is sometimes a source of frustration for me.
ReplyDeleteKasey, I've used the video you posted! Great powtoon! Response was very positive from my students. I liked how you noted that parents might need some reminders as well. I think that is very true. One thing to consider is the CommonsenseMedia.org site - check out their scope and sequence (broken down by grade level) - all the lessons are free, and they include info to be sent home for the family to read (just what you were mentioning!)
